The 1964 Major League Baseball season is the year of the pennant race. In the American League, the New York Yankees outlasted the Chicago White Sox (1.0 GB) and the Baltimore Orioles (2.0 GB) to reach yet another World Series. In the National League, the St. Louis Cardinals were able to hold off the Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies (both 1.0 GB) and the San Francisco Giants (3.0 GB) to reach the World Series which they eventually won in a great seven game battle. Harmon Killebrew (49) and Willie Mays (47) lead their respective leagues in Home Runs while Tony Oliva led the Junior Circuit in batting average at .323 and Roberto Clemente the Senior Circuit with .339. Dean Chance and Gary Peters both had 20 wins the lead the AL and Larry Jackson won 24 to lead the NL. The Los Angeles Angels played their home games at Dodger Stadium while they awaited their own home park.
