After nearly one hundred years of major league baseball, the Philadelphia Phillies finally win a World Series.  The Phillies beat the Kansas City Royals in six games.  The Phillies beat the pesky Montreal Expos by a single game in the NL East behind NL MVP Mike Schmidt and 24 game winner Steve Carlton.  The Houston Astros also had a tight race in the NL West as they beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in a one game playoff to decide the division.  The New York Yankees were three games better than the Baltimore Orioles behind the big bat of Reggie Jackson and the arm of Tommy John.  The Kansas City Royals ran away from the AL West behind AL MVP George Brett who challenged .400 all season before finishing at .390.  Other great performances from the 1980 season included 25 game winner Steve Stone of the Orioles, 41 Home Runs from Brewer Ben Oglivie, A's rookie Rickey Henderson with 100 stolen bases.  AL Rookie of the year was Indians DH Joe Charboneau and the NL Rookie of the year was Dodger reliever Steve Howe.  Relive all of the great moments of the 1980 season with Dugout Steps Baseball and the 1980 Season Set.
