The 1979-80 NHL Season saw many changes that would impact the league for many years.  The NHL absorbed four teams from the faltering WHA as the Edmonton Oilers, Hartford Whalers, Quebec Nordiques and Winnipeg Jets joined the NHL.  This meant that young stars like Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier and Real Cloutier along with aging legends like Gordie Howe and Bobby Hull would be in the NHL together for a tremendous season.  Al Arbour and the New York Islanders began their tremendous run of 4 consecutive Stanley Cups by defeating the Philadelphia Flyers to win their first.  Wayne Gretzky, at 19, took home the Hart Trophy but Marcel Dionne of the LA Kings had a season that was just as good.  The amazing Gordie Howe finished his career by tallying 41 points at the amazing age of 51.  Bobby Hull also played 9 games for the Whalers that year.  Lots of fun match ups with this set!  Relive the 1979-80 NHL Season with Rinkside Hockey!
