The Dallas Cowboys win their first Super Bowl having tasted defeat the previous season in Super Bowl V to the Baltimore Colts. This time their opponent was the young, up and coming Miami Dolphins under the direction of Don Shula. The Cowboys defeated the Dolphins 24-3 at Tulane Stadium. In 1971, Dallas finally turned the reigns of the offense over to Roger Staubach and he delivered. The road wasn't easy as they had to defeat the stingy defensive-minded Minnesota Vikings and then the San Francisco 49ers to reach the Super Bowl. In the AFC, the teams tied at the top of the conference for the best record met in the first round with the Dolphins beating the Kansas City Chiefs in a tough 27-24 win in Kansas City. That set up a game with the Colts who were looking to return to the Super Bowl and win again. The Dolphins beat the Colts 21-0 to earn the Super Bowl berth. The leader of the Purple People Eaters, Alan Page was named league MVP. Defense was the name of the game in the NFL in 1971 which provided good, hard-fought battles throughout the season. Relive it all with Sideline Football and the 1971 Season Set.
